Jamie Marler for Lynn Haven City Commissioner Seat 4
Committed to Community. Focused on the Future.
Working for the People
Public Safety
Protecting Our Community, Prioritizing Our First Responders
As a former first responder, public safety is near and dear to me. Lynn Haven is among one of the top cities in the state to live. So inevitably we are going to grow and with growth comes the responsibility of making sure we remain the safe city we are known for. Lynn Haven is one of the safest cities in the state. Our police department's average response time is two minutes and our fire department's response time averages four minutes. The Police Department was also just reaccredited which is a major accomplishment, as this is not an easy accreditation to obtain. As your commissioner I will make sure it is always a top priority that we focus on making sure our first responders needs are met and they have all the tools available to them to keep the citizens of this community safe.
Growth and Housing
Smart Growth, Stronger Infrastructure, Better Future
There are a thousand people a day moving to Florida. Half of those are moving to the Panhandle. Lynn Haven is one of the #1 cities in the state to move to. We must make sure as a commission we understand that we are going to continue to grow. That growth is inevitable. We are going to continue to need more housing and also the best schools. We also need to make sure it is not our job to compete with the private sector but rather as a city we are prepared with our water, roads and fire and police protection. We need to make sure all of these are top notch and we are prepared for the growth that is coming to our city.
Reducing the Debt
Fiscally Responsible Leadership for a Thriving Economy
I am a conservative at heart, I believe less taxes create a better home economy. When people have more money in their pocket they can buy nicer homes, or even purchase a house, which is the American dream. They can spend money on their children and they are not burdened by the city or county having to use their money to do other things. However the city has to have a budget to run and I am going to make sure as your next city commissioner that we run on the leanest budget possible without hurting city business. As far as safety, security and our infrastructure, those are my main three points. If we have all that together we will keep allowing people to move here and invest here. I would like to have a city where my son can grow up and want to stay here, just like his mom has done. We have wonderful schools like Gulf Coast and FSU. In recent history people who have lived here have had to move away to find careers. I would like to make sure when my son gets out of high school that he has a place to work. Whether he decides to go to a trade school and get a tech degree or go to college. I want him to be able to grow up here and my grandchildren to live here.
Get to know Jamie
My name is Jamie Marler and I am running for Lynn Haven City Commissioner seat 4. Lynn Haven is truly the best city in Bay County and while no city is immune to problems, I firmly believe that we overcome those problems by moving forward together!
I was born and raised in Dade City, Florida. There I independently raised my daughter and in 2010 we moved to Bay County. When we were looking for a place we wanted to settle down and call “home” we were driving through Lynn Haven and I looked at my daughter and said this is it. This is home and we haven’t looked back since! In 2015 I met the love of my life Sarah Kirkland and we were later married in 2017. Sarah has always called Lynn Haven home and her family roots to this little city run deep. I am an avid outdoorsman and previously served on the board for our local chapter of the National Wild Turkey Foundation. I am a man of strong faith and we are active members of St. Andrew Baptist Church and love being able to serve. In 2023 we welcomed our little boy into the world and love showing him around the best city there is on our afternoon golf cart rides!
While living in Dade City, I started my career out by running my family’s very successful multimillion dollar collision business and then decided I wanted a way to give back to my community. I attended the Police Academy and had the pleasure of serving as the president of my class where I then became a law enforcement officer upon graduation. After being injured in the line of duty sometime later and being my child’s only parent I realized that it was time for a fresh start and new career. In 2010 my daughter and I moved to Bay County. I began working for The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission doing invasive plant management on the biology side. In 2023, I suffered a catastrophic back injury while working which required emergency surgery having part of my spine rebuilt. This injury though had a silver lining and has now allowed me to be a stay at home Dad and a chance to yet again be able to give back and serve the community that we deeply love.
I became deeply invested in the local “politics” of Lynn Haven and Bay County when I moved here and have watched events unfold. I want for my family to have the same little city that my wife grew up in and that we are now we are raising our son in. I want my son to always be proud that Lynn Haven is home and continue the generational roots in this city that we love so well!
I am running because I want to be there for you. I want to listen to your concerns and your ideas. I want to work with my fellow commissioners, city manager and Mayor as one whole team united for you, the great citizens of Lynn Haven! It is the people after all that make Lynn Haven such a special place to live. I want to be a force behind driving positive change in this community. I truly believe that we can be even better when we move forward together!
